After a gestation of 13 months, the camel gives birth to a baby camel, also called a calf, weighs on average 80 pounds, for a height of about 35 inches. After the birth, the camel only needs a few hours to get up and start following his mother who will breastfeed for 1 1/2 years. It is only at the time of puberty that the male camel starts to stay away, thus joining a herd of singles. The female will remain in her mother's flock.
